Treatment for Medication-Resistant Depression Now Available at KMHS

Join national TMS experts Dr. James Hughes, KMHS Chief Medical Officer, and Dr. Christina Hughes, Medical Director for the Kitsap and Tacoma division of Seattle NTC, to learn about this highly effective treatment for medication-resistant depression. The two physicians were pioneers in bringing Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) to Kitsap, and are passionate about making it available to all who can benefit.

James B. Hughes, MD

As Chief Medical Officer for Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS), Dr. James B. Hughes oversees the effective, high-quality medical and psychiatric care delivered by KMHS inpatient services, outpatient services, crisis teams, and child and family professionals. With more than 20 years experience as a psychiatrist in inpatient, outpatient and community mental health settings, he is most proud of his long history of early adoption of cutting-edge therapeutic practices in the treatment of mental health conditions. Dr. Hughes was instrumental in opening the Neil S. Hirsch TMS Clinic at KMHS’ Almira Campus in May 2024. The clinic provides a simple, effective treatment that can be life changing for people with treatment-resistant depression.

Christina Hughes, MD

Dr. Christina Hughes is the Medical Director for the Kitsap and Tacoma division of Seattle Neuropsychiatric Treatment Center (SeattleNTC-Kitsap and SeattleNTC-Tacoma). Dr. Hughes specializes in neuro-rehabilitation as a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician, with fellowship training in Multiple Sclerosis. Leadership roles have included faculty appointment at the University of Washington, Director of the MS Regional Program at the VA, and Medical Director for the Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at EvergreenHealth. TMS has been a clinical modality of interest to Dr. Hughes for more than 10 years for treatment of depression as well as other neuro-psychiatric disorders. In 2024 Dr. Hughes was elected as a fellow of the Clinical TMS Society.
