Pendleton Place

Seventy-two chronically homeless adults with mental health or substance abuse disorders finally have something many of us take for granted – a place to call their own.

Residents ranging in age from 20 to 72 began moving into Pendleton Place in May 2022, filling a mix of one-bedroom and studio apartments. They have access to a common area, computer lab and on-site medical treatment by Peninsula Community Health Services. KMHS staff will provide around-the-clock support, including substance use treatment services and employment assistance.

Named in honor of the late Lloyd Pendleton, Pendleton Place is the first large permanent supportive housing complex for Kitsap County adults who are chronically homeless with severe mental illness, addictions and long-lasting health conditions. The $22 million project is the result of six years of work and an extraordinary community partnership.

Lloyd, a nationally known advocate for ending homelessness, met with Kitsap area organizations and community members in 2016 to plant the seed that has grown into Pendleton Place. Research has shown that permanent supported housing provides stability and increased opportunities for recipients to engage in treatment, healthcare and employment services. It’s life changing to have a key, a front door and a community of support.

Welcome Baskets filled with kitchen and bath needs were provided for each resident by the League of Women Voters of Kitsap County. From utensils to towels, community donations made new residents feel at home.

Residents Have Permanent Homes

All Pendleton Place apartments are occupied. If vacancies become available, they will be filled with tenants screened by the Housing Solutions Center. The Bremerton Housing Authority serves as the property manager and provides rent subsidies for all units. Tenants sign a lease and spend no more than 30% of their income on rent and utilities.
