Her brother’s overdose, Tabatha Collins notes, wasn’t widely known. He wasn’t famous. His body was found in a field. He’d had extreme problems with alcohol and struggled with mental health issues. She believes he had undiagnosed bipolar disorder.
“I’m the one that remembers him,” said Collins, a Bremerton resident. “He’s not the type of person who died and hundreds of people came to his funeral because he’s this police officer or he did something.”
They’d been close growing up and while his death might not have garnered much attention to the rest of the world, his passing was significant to her.
So on New Year’s Day 2019, which would have marked Todd’s 52nd birthday, Collins flipped her calendar to a run at a huge effort in his memory: 52 ultramarathons and a Guinness World Record. This would be her way of honoring her brother, of remembering him.
