Community Crisis Response
Kitsap Mental Health Services takes a team approach to crisis response. Our Mobile Crisis Outreach Team consists of mental health professionals, care providers, peers and Designated Crisis Responders (DCRs), who are available 24/7. Team members help people suffering from a mental health and/or substance abuse disorder who may be a danger to themselves or others.
DCRs provide emergency assessments and referrals to inpatient care, which may include, if necessary, involuntary detention in our evaluation and treatment center or other psychiatric facility or substance use treatment facility. DCRs help match people in crisis with the least restrictive services needed to support them in their recovery.
Crisis intervention may include referrals to available services, psychiatric and substance use screenings, and when necessary, follow-up monitoring of acute clients when they return to the community. Referrals to DCRs can be made by any concerned citizen, by individuals in crisis, professional providers, and by law enforcement officers in need of assistance.
If you or someone you know is in a behavioral health crisis, the best way to get help is to call the 24/7 Volunteers of America Crisis Call Line at 1-888-910-0416. The line is staffed by professionals who are trained to determine the level of crisis services needed. Depending on the need, this may include dispatching the KMHS Mobile Crisis Outreach Team for emergency assessment.
Many people with mental illness also struggle with substance use. We treat both.
