Kitsap Mental Health Services is committed to a healthy work environment. Woven into the fabric of our operations is the concept of Total Quality Management (TQM). Presented by the Chief Executive Officer, the theme for each new employee orientation is that each new employee has been hired to help improve the organization, that each is our new set of eyes and ears, and that KMHS encourages them to observe and share ways in which the agency can improve its operations. Every effort is made to take advantage of the experience and wisdom the employees bring with them.

Another theme, that of respect for one another, is emphasized as something each employee has the power and responsibility to positively impact. Further, the themes of TQM are the basis for each employee’s performance appraisal, with internal and external customer relations, leadership, teamwork, initiative and contributions to the organization all being considered. These same values are the areas reviewed by each team in the annual Quality Program Review process.

Does TQM work? The employees say "yes”. Many return to Kitsap Mental Health Services after trying other places of employment. Employees have rated KMHS highly in the annual "Best Companies to Work For” competition sponsored by Washington CEO Magazine. Twice, staff has voted KMHS the best not-for-profit company for which to work in Washington State, and their ratings have qualified KMHS as a finalist in the competition six out of seven years since 1999.
